The technology behind noise cancellation
Dual noise sensor technology, which includes two microphones in each ear pad, picks up ambient noise and feeds the data to the QN1 HD noise canceling processor. Thanks to a new algorithm, the latter eliminates noise in real time. Working with a new Bluetooth® audio system-on-a-chip, it picks up and adjusts music and noise signals, and does the same for the acoustic characteristics between the player and the ears, more than 700 times per second.
Optimizing the noise elimination system
The WH-1000XM4 headphones incorporate two technologies to maximize noise cancellation. Unique Air Pressure Optimization delivers optimal sound at high altitudes.2, while Personal Noise Canceling Optimizer analyzes the acoustic characteristics of head size, glasses and hair, then optimizes the sound Consequently.

Adjust ambient sounds using the Sony app | Headphones Connect to eliminate noise while letting essential sounds, like transport announcements, pass through when you listen on the go.
Wireless freedom, high-end sound
LDAC transmits approximately three times more data (maximum rate of 990 kbps) than a traditional BLUETOOTH® audio system. You can then listen to high-resolution audio content of exceptional quality, close to that through a dedicated wired connection.

The analog amplifier integrated into the QN1 HD noise canceling processor enables an unmatched signal-to-noise ratio, delivering low distortion and exceptional sound quality for portable devices. Using Edge AI co-developed with Sony Music Entertainment, DSEE Extreme ™ (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) improves the quality of digital files in real time. It recognizes the instrumentation, genre and elements of each song on the fly, and restores any high tones lost during compression to provide a richer and more complete listening experience.
Everyday convenience: Speak-to-Chat
As soon as you speak with someone, Speak-to-Chat stops the music and lets the ambient sound pass; a very handy function if you want to keep your headphones, or your hands are taken. Based on precise voice capture technology, this feature uses 5 microphones built into your headphones and advanced audio signal processing to respond to your voice. Adaptive Sound Control automatically adjusts according to your location and activities.
Adaptive Sound Control is a smart feature that can learn to recognize places you visit often, such as your work or your favorite cafe, and customize the sound to give you the perfect listening experience. In addition, this function automatically detects what you are doing (walking, waiting or traveling for example) and adjusts the ambient sound parameters accordingly.
Headphones that respond to you
A proximity sensor in your headphones can detect whether you're wearing them or not, then tailor the reading accordingly to save battery power. The music stops automatically when you take off your headphones. Put them back and it will restart automatically.
